The Early Years Observatory (EYO) is the dedicated early childhood research initiative from the Education Policy Institute (EPI). EPI is an independent, impartial and evidence-based research institute that aims to promote high quality education outcomes for all children and young people, regardless of social background.
The EYO exists to democratise early years data, research, and evidence by making critical findings accessible for everyone interested in mapping the lives of children under five. By publishing original analysis and providing open-access resources, the Observatory provides the empirical foundation necessary to inform public debate, challenge decision-makers, and scrutinise the systems, policies, and services shaping early childhood. Grounded in EPI’s core mission, the EYO is motivated by improving developmental, educational, and wellbeing outcomes: particularly for the most disadvantaged and vulnerable young people.
